The Weekly Wind Down: Run, Reflect, Radiate
Sharing the narratives that have stopped me in my tracks, the inspiration that keeps me going, and the nuggets of wisdom gleaned along the way.
I’m learning a lot this week. Because we’re watching Winston again.
AKA Slobber Boss.
He’s a 2-year old Mastiff/Great Dane/Bermese mix and while he’s insanely cute…there is slobber everywhere.
But that doesn’t stop him from dropping his head in my lap in the moments when what I need most is a giant (literally) lap dog (also literally) reminding me what’s most important.
What I’m Following on IG:
Calling all fellow millennials: If you also miss the days of Kid Cuisine dinners and glow-in-the-dark stars, you need to follow this Instagram account.
What I’m Writing About:
I think…I finalized my first chapter last week. Or the last chapter, I’m unsure. But it’s another chapter in a book filled with chaotic pieces, so it feels right. It’s called Voices, and yes, it’s behind a paywall.
What I’m Getting Excited About:
I wrote a children’s book, The Cape of Darkness. Seeing it come to life with illustrations by my amazingly talented friend Caro is giving me all the feels. I wrote the synopsis a few weeks back. We’re aiming for an August publication date!
What I’m Fully in Support of:
A new Era has entered the chat. But the TL;DR here is that Taylor’s nickname for the "Tortured Poets" section of the set is "Female Rage, the musical." I respect that.
What I’m Reading:
To The Gorge by Emily Halnon. Just reading the jacket copy on this one had my eyes tearing up. This woman and this story — chills chills chills.
What I’m Amazed by:
Gene therapy. Specifically gene therapy for hearing loss in children. This story blew my mind and gave me so much hope.
The TL;DR this week is that running a business is hard. Not a surprise, but a fun challenge in time management, social media marketing, and hoping Canva doesn’t shut down on me mid-presentation. I knew this going in and was so excited about it — that hasn’t changed, but one thing I’ve learned is that app timers are this girl’s best friend.
Whatever and whomever you’re loving on and leaning into this week, I’m wishing you more of it.
-Kristen
I just picked up To the Gorge, too! Curious to hear your thoughts when you're done!
